Yellow and Grey Inspiration

Hello Beauties

Spring time is here and I love how a Yellow and Grey wedding perfectly captures the season, a little sunshine and a bit of cozy clouds.  I have been working with my very good friends, Hollie and Thuy, on their Spring Wedding and they have chosen a yellow and grey palette.  Their wedding is quickly approaching and I love working on all of their Vintage Glam projects! I can’t wait to share the pictures with you!

I use Pintrest to gather inspiration and organize it in a way that is easy for my clients to see.  Here is a sample of the inspiration I am using for Hollie and Thuy’s wedding.  Be sure to follow MLM Worldwide Event Planning for a daily dose of inspiration!

I adore the Vintage Glam Love Bird theme and I am so excited for the couple to see everything on their big day!

Bridal Gowns For Beginners

Hello Beauties!

One of the most amazing jobs I ever had was working as a Bridal Gown consultant at Castle For Brides (formally in Huntington Beach, CA, now in Laguna Hills, CA).  My best girlfriend’s Aunt Jerri was the manager and we got to spend our free time together helping bride’s play dress up.  My girlfriend Brooke and I used to go through each and every dress to help organize the store and stay up to date on the latest bridal trends.

That job made me have a new appreciation for the Wedding Industry because while working there I realized the  wedding day was about more then a gown, flowers and some cake — It was all of the hopes every mother had for their daughter, the true bond of friendships and the love between two people committing themselves for a lifetime.  I’m getting a little teary eyed just thinking about it.

"You do not alter Vera to fit you, You alter yourself to fit Vera" - Bridewars

Brides would often come in to the boutique with an army of women and a notebook full of ideas, but without a real clue to what it all meant.  So, I decided to gather all of my bridal gown knowledge in one convienent place. Enjoy!

General Guidelines

  • Bring in Inspiration – BUT… Keep an open mind.  Try on a few styles to know for sure what you like and what you will never try on again.  Trust the consultant, she knows about body type and fit better then most.
  • Don’t book more than 2 salon appointments in one day.  You will have Bridal Gown overload and it will become one bright white blur.
  • Bring 1 (maybe 2) people with you on your first few visits.  Once you have narrowed the search down to two or three contenders then bring the entourage.  You want the women closest to you to participate, not have free reign.
  • Do your hair and makeup.  You will feel pretty and put together while looking in the mirror all day long.  Also, wear a comfortable pair of wedges for a little height.
  • Calculate your budget before arriving at the store.  Do NOT try on dresses out of your price range because, believe me, you will fall in love and it isn’t a great idea to cancel the honeymoon for a dress (I have seen this happen.. then had the groom call me to complain)
  • Consider house of worship dress codes.  But if you do choose a strapless dress Gwyneth made capes fresh, so there are options.
  • Every single wedding dress needs alterations, so order up not down.
  • Finally always, always, always FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS (this is true in all aspects of your life, but you already knew that)

Now onto the Bridal Gown Terminology

FABRIC – Before gown shopping be sure you have set the date.  The time of year will help dictate the best fabric choices.

  • Brocade: Stiff, heavy fabric with an all over pattern.  Best for cooler months.
  • Duchess Satin: Dense fabric with a slight sheen.  It can come in a wide range of colors and is a traditional fabric for ball gowns.  Best for cool, comfortable weather.
  • Organza: A structured but sheer fabric.  It can have a shimmer affect and is often used as an overlay (over a silk or satin gown).  Organza can be worn year round.
  • Shantung: Raw silk with nubby texture and high sheen.  It has an earthy quality that I love.  It can be worn year round.
  • Taffeta: A light weight fabric.  It reminds me of the parachutes from gym glass (In a Good Way!) but much more luxurious.  It is a lighter alternative to duchess satin and works wear round.
  • Charmeuse: Thin, Silk fabric that is best suited for knockout figures.  This fabric can be quite unforgiving.  It works great for beach weddings or warmer climates.
  • Chiffon: Light, airy and sheer.  It is often used as an overlay.  Crinkled and textured options are a modern update to this romantic fabric.  Best for warmer months or destination wedding since it packs so easily.
  • Tulle: A soft, netting that is often used for full ball gowns.  it looks adorable at tea length also.  This is also the classic fabric for a veil.

Silhouettes – Your body type will really dictate the best shape for your wedding gown. But you might be surprised about what accentuates your curves, so keep an open mind.

  • A Line: A classic inverted V-Shape.  Suits any type of wedding and any body type.
  • Ball Gown: Grand and dramatic.  Fitted bodice with a full skirt, often gathered all the way around the skirt or box pleats that lay flat.  This style can detract from a full bust and hides large hips but it won’t work well on petites.
  • Column: a slim fitted dress that is most likely bias cut.  Works great on slim figures and petite women.
  • Mermaid: A long, fitted torso with a flounce from the knees down.  Looks amazing on everyone from boyish figures to curvy gals.
  • Trumpet: A new silhouette that falls in between an A-Line and a Mermaid style.  Perfect for a wide range of figures.

DETAILS- This is what makes a dress unique.  The Neckline, Waistline and Embellishments really show off the brides personality.

NECKLINE

  • Crumb Catcher: Dramatic, High-Style.  It is a panel of fabric that stands away from the neckline and it is often pleated or ruffled.
  • Off the Shoulder: A slightly scooped neckline where the straps rest below your shoulders.  The only drawback is that it may be difficult to raise your arms.
  • Halter: The straps extend and wrap around your neck.  It is a more revealing style (sleeveless and backless) and works great for beach weddings.
  • Strapless: Currently most popular neckline for brides (although Kate Middleton gave strapless a run for their money last year).  Be sure to get this style fitted perfectly so you don’t have to adjust all night long.
  • Sweeheart: Heart shaped curve to the neckline and my personal favorite.  A straight across dress can often have a sweetheart neckline created by a seamstress.  This style can be strapless or have sleeves/ straps.

WAIST

  • Basque: The middle of the waist points to a downward v shape.  Very flattering, giving the illusion of a tiny waist.
  • Dropped: A longer, extended waistline that hits at the top of the hips.
  • Empire: This romantic and youthful design sits right below the bust.  Think Shakespeare in Love.
  • Natural: Sits at the natural curve of your waist, usually with a full skirt.

EMBELLISHMENTS

  • Applique: 3D detail sown onto dress.  Lace, silk flowers or a variety of fabrics can be appliqued.
  • Beading: Hand Sown crystal and pearl beadwork on the bodice, skirt and/ or sleeves.
  • Draping: Soft flowing fabric, often with a Grecian feel.
  • Embroidery: Decorating fabric with thread.  The thread can be the same color as the fabric for a subtle effect or a contrasting color to match the wedding colors.
  • Pleating: Modern and structured.
  • Ruching: Gathered detail usually on the bodice.  It is extremely figure flattering.

TRAIN

  • No Train: This isn’t technically a train but it is an option.
  • Brush: This is is the smallest train and it just brushes the floor.  A very lightweight option.
  • Chapel: About 4 feet from waistline and one of the most popular options
  • Semi-Cathedral: A great option for a more formal event.
  • Cathedral: A very formal option that will fall about 7-8 feet from the waistline.  It can be quite heavy.  I love the detachable cathedral train for the drama at the ceremony and ease at the reception.
  • Royal: Around 9 feet from the waist and the most formal option.  Don;t forget your page boys to carry it down the aisle.

Now that your are well versed in Bridal Gown Terminology, I hope shopping for your own gown isn’t as daunting.  I will be publishing a feature on How To Choose the Correct Veil for Your Bridal Gown in a few days so check back often!

Modern Bridal Shower for the Gourmet Bride

Hello Beauties!

I love designing bridal showers because all of the most important women in a Bride’s life come together to share their wisdom for a happy marriage.  The bride is given advice on how to keep up with housework, ways to resolve arguments and easy dinner ideas.

Learning how to cook to suit you and your future husband’s lifestyle is so important and A Gourmet Recipe Shower is a modern take on the traditional kitchen shower.  Who wouldn’t love going out to Zagat rated restaurant every night, but that just isn’t realistic with work and eventually children.  Hosting a Gourmet Recipe shower for the Bride will help get her ready to wow even the most work week weary husband.

Invitations can include a kitchen utensil or a mini cutting board.  Be sure to include the customary details (when, where, rsvp) and also include the gourmet potluck recipe request.  Ask each guest to bring a gourmet appetizer or dessert along with the recipe.  All of the recipe’s will be gathered and placed into a notebook for the bride to take home as a keepsake.  I  know I love to participate in a potluck but if you think your guests would be offended, then just request them to bring along their favorite gourmet recipe.

The table decor can incorporate kitchen utensils into the flower displays and centerpieces.  It is a fun way to incorporate the foodie theme, while also allowing the bride to take as a gift.  I personally love to use the Kitchenaid products.  The spatulas, spoons, peelers, etc are so durable and they come in the brightest colors!  If you do go with the KitchenAid centerpieces don’t forget to display the bride’s piece de resistance… The KitchenAid mixer!
A great game for a Gourmet Shower is an Exotic Taste test.  One of my favorite Top Chef quickfire challenges is where each chef must do a blind taste test on exotic fruit, spices, chutney and vegetables.  The shower can also incorporate a game with 10-15 different ingredients set up on a table and each guest is encouraged to taste test.  Once everyone has a chance to sample the offerings, the correct answers are tallied and the winner is announced!  A lovely gift basket filled with amazing products for the guests own kitchen would make a wonderful prize.
A table with a beautiful Gourmet Cook Book would make a unique guest book.  Each guest can sign next to their favorite recipe or add their own well wishes on the inside cover.  Near the Guest Book table would be the delicious favors.  A petite jar of rosemary infused sea salt would be a luxurious DIY project.  All you would need to do is insert three to four small sprigs of rosemary (any herb would work) into a glass jar before filling with sea salt.  Let them sit in a cool dark place for a few days before the party.
Gourmet Potluck Recipe

If you do decide to incorporate a potluck element into the party I would recommend dividing everyone up into appetizer or dessert.  Then the hostess can provide the main course.  One of my absolute favorite recipes for a potluck is a Crescent Wreath.  You can fill the wreath with any fillings to accommodate any dietary needs.
By: Jane Nachboe- Tastefully SImple
Crescent roll wreath

Ingredients
½ lb. mild Italian bulk sausage
3 Tbsp. Dried Tomato & Garlic Pesto Mix
1 cup shredded colby Jack cheese
½ cup chopped fresh broccoli
¾ (10.75 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
¾ cup chopped red and green bell pepper
2 (8 oz.) tubes refrigerated crescent rolls

Directions
Brown first 2 ingredients in medium skillet until sausage is no longer
pink; add next 4 ingredients. Unroll and separate crescent rolls into
triangles; arrange crescent rolls with wide ends completely
overlapping in a wreath shape on large baking pan. Spoon sausage mixture over wide ends of crescent rolls; roll pointed ends and tuck under wide ends, leaving filling visible. Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes. Makes 8-10 servings.

Modern, Luxurious and Magical Escort Card Inspiration

Hello Beauties!

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I have been busy completing projects for an upcoming wedding I’m coordinating! I can’t wait to share the pictures.

I have been looking for Modern, Luxurious and Magical inspiration for an escort card display and here are my favorite finds from Pinterest.  Be sure to Follow MLM Worldwide Event Planning on Pinterest for a daily dose of great inspiration.

Escort cards can be displayed in a traditional arrangement on a table with a show stopping centerpiece

One way to get a lot of bang out of your floral budget is to have the largest arrangement at the wedding on the escort card table.  It is the first thing guests will see before entering the actual reception so a large arrangement will make a lasting impression

Another great idea for the escort table is the edible escort card
A miniature bottle of ketchup would be a great addition to a casual b-b-q.
Bottled of soda adds a great pop of color to a bright, modern event.
Stripped Lollipops in a green silk box adds a playful element to a stuffy black tie affair.
A terra cotta pot of fresh herbs would make a wonderful edible favor for the guest to take home
Rustic inspired escort displays

Table assignments etched onto vintage window panes is an unexpected update on the traditional display
A rusted wagon filled with wheat grass keeps the escort tags in order
A sunflower for each guest look amazing at a Summer wedding
A tiny bundle of Lavender would not only look beautiful but be fragrant as well
A gilded gold frame with rows of lace is a great blend way to display the escort cards.  The clothespins holding the cards to the lace can be glittered to add extra sparkle
A vintage key is a wonderful keepsake
The Escort Card Display is a great way to add some personality into your event.  Incorporate something you love to do as a couple or showcase your wedding colors in an unexpected way.  For more escort card ideas visit my Pinterest Page

Did you have an unexpected escort card table? What are you planning on doing for your upcoming event? Please share your ideas, I would love to hear!

MLM Bachelorette Profile- Stephanie Thuss

Hello Beauties!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  It’s sprinkling here in Los Angeles so I hope everyone stays dry while bar hopping today.

To celebrate an amazing excuse for drinking green beer I am bringing you a great
MLM Bachelorette Profile- Stephanie Thuss!!

Stephanie is such a sweet heart and is always so much fun to be around.  She met her fiance, Garrit Barth at “the shore” in Long Beach, CA. They quickly became friends and he pursued Stephanie until she finally agreed to be his girlfriend on June 13, 2007.  She describes Garrit as Outgoing, Athletic and Sweet!

Their proposal story is a perfect look inside their relationship- genuine and silly at the same time.  On August 13, 2011 Garrit was insisting Stephanie leave happy hour with a girlfriend so that they could get a paddle boarding session in.  She really wasn’t in the mood but her friend helped persuade her to meet Garrit.  Once they hit the Canals of Naples and were making their way to the Bay, Garrit began with his speech, “You know how much I love you right?”  Stephanie was turning to answer with, “Yes, Of Course!”, when she saw him down on one knee.. balancing on his paddle board, mind you.  His next words were “Will you marry me?”

Stephanie was so shocked, she thought he might really be pranking her! As she was paddling to turn her board to face him, he reached forward to hand her the ring.  Garrit stumbled and the ring splashed down, into the murky bay water with a loud kerplunk.  Stephanie was filled with every emotion- shock, confusion, joy.. but she thought to herself, “Well, I guess we have to go scuba diving now to go get my ring!”  At that moment Garrit’s sister yelled from the colonnade, “You Dropped IT?!??”  At this point it finally clicked to Stephanie that this wasn’t a prank at all.  Garrit then reached into his pocket and said, “Just kidding, here is your real ring.”  It was attached to a bright orange buoy. After paddling to his family, they celebrated all night long drinking champagne while their close friends toasted the beautiful couple.

Stephanie will celebrate her last night as a single lady eating Yellowtail shashimi and drinking a Sailor Jerry and Coke. She regularly practices Birkham Yoga (and has the abs to prove it).  Steph and Garrit love to snuggle up and catch up on their biggest guilty pleasure- Jersey Shore!  If the happy couple has their way, they would be relaxing in fabulous Bora Bora in an over-water hut during their honeymoon.

Stephanie’s Bachelorette Party must haves are House Music and a gorgeous Swimming Pool.  She is a Bottle Poppin’ Bachelorette All The WAY!  Vegas better watch out!

Congratulations Stephanie and Garrit!! All of the best wishes for a fun-filled future together!
